AED-SHOP, a division of HeartSafe America, Inc. (HSA), is a national distributor of Medical Equipment, with an emphasis on Automated External Defibrillators (AED) and life-saving equipment. It is our goal to help reduce the numbers of deaths from Sudden Cardiac Arrest by increasing public awareness and expanding the number of Automated External Defibrillators in public and private facilities.

AED-SHOP assists all types of organizations with implementing an AED Program suited to the organization’s needs. The task of creating an AED Program can be daunting. Many people do not have an idea of where to begin when creating and implementing their AED Program. AED-SHOP is here to assist organizations in implementing an AED Program.

Here are some questions to ask yourself to see if your organization is need for an AED Program:

1. Does my organization need an AED Program?

AED-SHOP recommends that all organizations have an AED Program in place. Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) can occur at any time to anyone. Being prepared for this situation can help save the life of the victim that suffers from SCA.

2. How many AEDs would my organization need for the AED Program?

The amount of AEDs needed is best resolved by the 2-3 minute drop to shock rule. The 2-3 minute drop to shock rule means that it takes a layperson 2-3 minutes to retrieve the AED, drop, and shock the victim. Other factors when considering the amount of AEDs would be the size of the location, and if there are multiple sites at the location. AED-SHOP can help assess the amount of AEDs that would be recommended for the organization’s location.

3. How does my organization know what AED and AED accessories would best fit its needs?

AED-SHOP has created several AED packages that have been created to meet a variety of organizations’ needs and these packages have been priced to meet most organization’s budgets for creating an AED Program. AED-SHOP can also work with each organization to determine which AED best fits the needs of the organization.

4. Do members of my organization need training in order to use the AEDs?

Training is not a requirement for purchasing or possessing an AED. AED-SHOP highly recommends that several members of the organization receive training on how the AED works, how to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and how to respond to a person that is suffering from Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA). The AEDs are created so that a layperson is able to use the AED without being trained. The AEDs are simple to use and many of the AEDs have CPR coaching to help ensure that the layperson is able to assist the victim.

AED-SHOP assisted Manzanola School District in Manzanola, Colorado, with implementing their AED Program. AED-SHOP sent an email to the Manzanola School District describing the effects of the SCA, the packages and services offered by AED-SHOP.Manzanola School District felt it was time for them to implement their AED Program.

Manzanola School District purchased two Philips HeartStart OnSite School Packages from AED-SHOP. The Philips HeartStart OnSite School Packages included the Philips HeartStart OnSite, infant/child pads, an alarmed cabinet, our data management solutions program, a free medical authorization, and free shipping. The school packages went to the elementary school and to the junior/senior high school. Each of their schools is now equipped with an AED and has the ability to save someone suffering from SCA.
